Fly Fishing the AuSable River, NY

Just returned from a short trip to the High Peaks range in the Adirondack mountains. We took a couple great hikes and had only a morning to fish the AuSable river. The Au Sable has a long history with the fly fishing folks and it’s truly a river to add to your bucket list.

Stop by and say hello to owner Evan and make sure to ask for a complimentary map. Evan Bottcher runs a full service shop with a top-notch guide service. Of course Rachel Finn guides out of the shop so that say it all. She’s the real deal.

Between the sweltering heat and low water, I knew we were in for a tough go of it. But it was nice to get out for a few hours, make some casts and luck into a fish. There are some real fishy looking spots along Route 86. It’s been years since I fished it but after looking around I be back soon.
